Sbjct

Editorial & Web Design

The Ask

SBJCT Journal is a digital publication showcasing remarkable individuals across diverse industries. It creates a forum for meaningful dialogue about the passions and causes that drive these featured personalities.

The publication's distinctive identity blends hand-drawn elements with handwritten components, introducing an intimate and whimsical character to its bold typographic choices. Our design team crafted editorial and web experiences that authentically capture the brand's essence.

A unique feature of SBJCT is its adaptive logo—the handwritten "sbjct:" transforms with each new featured individual, while the signature red colon serves as the brand's recognizable icon throughout all materials.

The Process

As a contributor on this project, I wanted to learn and grow from my mentors who shaped the direction, but let me contribute my own eye and aesthetic early on, encouraging me to play, iterate, and create new things. I consider this one of the building blocks of my design eye, a hands-on experience and project that let me flex my creative skills early on, and give me confidence in my innate abilities.

The ability to channel a brand’s aesthetic, as well as imbue my own personal sensibilities, is part of what taught me to be confident in my abilities. It also taught me that design is a conversation, not a monologue, and learning from and working with other designers is what makes things better.
